OPEN UNTIL FILLED PRIMARY PURPOSE
Work under the direction of the teacher of the deaf to enable students to learn communication skills and help them to grow mentally, physically and emotionally.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
Two years of study at an institution of higher learning OR An associates (or higher) degree OR Meet the rigorous standard of quality required by the district Special Knowledge/Skills Strong communication, public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills Effective verbal and written communications skills Ability to follow written and/or oral directions, interpret policy and exercise good judgement Work effectively and harmoniously with students, parents and school personnel Ability to instruct small groups Ability to use the communication system that is required for the student(s)

Standard office/educational equipment including personal computer, tablets, Smart Board, etc.
Posture:
Prolonged sitting, standing and walking; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion:
Prolonged walking, repetitive hand motions
Lifting:
Lifting and carrying (less than 60 pounds)
Environment:
Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases), work with frequent interruptions in a variety of educational settings and maintain professional demeanor under stress
Travel:
Some in district travel Regular attendance is an essential function.
Minimum Experience:
Experience working with students and parents- preferred. This experience may be working in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day-care centers or similar experiences.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning. Conduct learning exercises with small groups of children. Facilitate communication between teacher and student and student and peers. Guide children in working and playing harmoniously with other children. Alert the teacher to special needs of individual children. Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary. Help maintain individual records for each child. Foster good eating habits and table manners in children. Assist teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas. Assist with the supervision of children during regular play periods. Collect and display suitable material for educational displays. Participate in District staff development programs. Maintain confidentiality. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
