Primary Purpose:
To assist and support the classroom teacher and to provide effective direct instruction to special needs students in a positive teaching-learning environment and in a variety of instructional settings during the ESY program.RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Cooperatively perform tasks under the supervision of assigned certified professional employees in a variety of instructional settings. Provide assistance to teachers and related service personnel in preparing and implementing instructional curriculum, and daily classroom routines. Work with individual students and with groups as directed. Anticipate the needs of the teacher(s) and students to maximize instructional time on task. Assist in testing routines including data collection and criterion-referenced assessments. Operate, store, and use educational media, computers and equipment as directed, including special lifting devices. Engage in activities, which promote positive communication and understanding school and community. Participate in in-service training workshops as required by the District, principal or designee (i.e. academic instruction, crisis management, compliance training, lifting techniques, etc.). Appropriately manage students physically, verbally, and non-verbally who may be out of control, working collaboratively with the instructional team. Provide or assist students to manage activities of daily living (i.e. toileting, changing, diapering, eating, and positioning). Keep data and compile records as assigned. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification/Minimum Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Title 1Funded Campus:
48 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR meets NCLB requirements for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals Non-Title 1Funded Campus:
30 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR three years full-time work related experience with special needs students in an instructional or child care facilitySpecial Knowledge/Skills:
Constructive and cooperative attitude toward the duties of the aide, the school, the staff and the students Ability to communicate effectively and positively both verbally and non-verbally Ability to read, write, and implement instructions designated by teachers/supervisors in order to fully implement student IEPs Ability to follow directives and perform tasks necessary to ensure the safety of students at all times Ability to change diapers, feed and care for children ages 3-21 who may have significant physical and mental disabilities Ability to work with students who demonstrate emotional, social, and behavioral difficulties Willingness to attend training to obtain certification in the District's crisis prevention and management programOTHER INFORMATION
