OBJECTIVES
Under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and/or designee. Upon request, the assistant will have the responsibility for reports and/or records. Decisions are made on a routine level. The position renders simple public services several times a week and has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist Head Instructor by teaching students ranging from ages 5-15 different activities, according to the specific field. Must be responsible for equipment issued by the Department of Parks and Recreation. Assist in preparing daily lesson plans as well as keep track of class attendance. File department documentation as requested. Notify parents of class schedule changes or cancellations as requested. Responsible in exhibiting special leadership qualities and ability to work with supervisors as well as subordinates. Must be able to promote good public relations for the city. Must be able to meet the public in a courteous manner, using tact and diplomacy, regardless of the circumstances. Thinks and promotes "safety" at all times.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS
General office equipment, personal computer, fax, copier, calculator, supplies and sports related equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Some unusual working hours, irregular hours or shifts, may involve occasional travel, with little or no hazard to health or body in standard conditions, adequate lighting, heating and ventilation. Little or no physical effort; requires little movement and infrequent lifting greater than 5-15 lbs.
EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED
Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with some knowledge of the subject to perform work in a limited range of work situations with intermittent supervision. No experience is necessary. Must have a valid TX Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record; unless, applicant is a High School student, may provide a school ID or Texas ID.
Preferred Experience/Knowledge:
Baseball, softball, football, soccer, track and field, swimming, tennis and dance/cheerleading.
