POSITION SUMMARY
: Provide supplemental assistance for the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements when working with identified ESL or Bilingual students Work under the supervision of a certified teacher
QUALIFICATIONS
:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED Must have completed 30 college hours; OR Met a rigorous standard of quality, demonstrated through a formal State or local academic assessment Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Good interpersonal skills Ability to work well with students and staff Bilingual (written and oral)
Experience:
Some experience working with children
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
:
Instructional Support:
Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
Student Management:
Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, work with individual students or small groups Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom this includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty Keep the teacher informed of the special needs or problems of individual students Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned Other duties as assigned
