Job Description

Utah Valley University is seeking a Student Teaching Assistant to support the instructor and students in IT 1510: Introduction to Linux during in-person class meetings. The teaching assistant will provide real-time technical support to students, primarily assisting with virtual machine setup, Linux command-line troubleshooting, and lab navigation during the Tuesday/Thursday 1:00-2:15 PM class sessions.
Some responsibilities include:
Assist students during class with virtual machine setup and troubleshooting (VMware / VirtualBox). Help diagnose and resolve Linux operating system and command-line issues during lab activities. Provide one-on-one technical support while the instructor is teaching. Assist students with navigating course tools, files, and lab instructions. Communicate recurring technical issues to the instructor to improve lab materials. Maintain a professional and supportive classroom presence. Must be a current UVU student
Preferred Qualifications:
Successfully completed IT 1510 or 1600 Working knowledge of Linux fundamentals, including basic commands (ls, cd, chmod, chown, nano/gedit, package management). Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware Workstation, VirtualBox, or similar). Ability to troubleshoot common VM issues (networking, shared folders, permissions, boot problems). Strong problem-solving and communication skills, especially in a classroom setting. Ability to assist multiple students efficiently during lab sessions. Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and academic integrity.
