Job Description

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)/Paraeduacator at our small junior high/high school plays a crucial role in supporting students with disabilities and mild behavior management needs. The primary responsibility of the RBT will be to work closely with one student, implementing behavior intervention plans and providing individualized support to foster academic and social success. Additionally, the RBT will collaborate with other staff members to address the needs of various students across different abilities within the school.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to address the specific needs of the assigned student. Provide direct support to the assigned student(s) during classroom activities, transitions, and social interactions, focusing on promoting positive behaviors and skill development. Conduct ongoing data collection and analysis to monitor progress and effectiveness of behavior interventions, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure student success. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other school staff to integrate behavior support strategies into the student's academic and social routines. Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide positive behavior support initiatives to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. Provide support and guidance to other staff members in implementing behavior management techniques and strategies with students across different abilities. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians (through Special Education Director), special and general education teachers and staff regarding student progress, behavior challenges, and strategies for support both at school and at home. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to enhance skills and stay updated on best practices in behavior management and special education.
Qualifications:
2 years of College/University or Pass the Paraeducator Praxis exam Current certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe. Experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in an educational setting. Knowledge of behavior management techniques and principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and school staff. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive student information. Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude towards supporting students with diverse needs and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working as an RBT in a school setting. Familiarity with special education laws and regulations, such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
