6/12/2026 POSITION SUMMARY Performs responsible human support and paraprofessional work assisting classroom teachers or other certificated staff in helping students achieve instructional objectives and established goals in the areas of reading and/or mathematics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists the classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives. Provides practice activities and repetitions in reading and/or math as developed by classroom and/or Title I teacher(s). Assists with large and small group reading and/or math activities. Guides independent study in reading and/or math as assigned by the teacher. Reports and assists with student problems. Supervises students during unstructured time, such as lunch and recess. Assists with student routines. Maintains courteous, professional, and effective working relationships with all levels of employees. Works the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Performs related duties as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post•secondary institution or career technical facility, or an Associate's Degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro assessment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic instructional methods and practices used in elementary and secondary education. Knowledge of child growth and development. Knowledge of reading, mathematics, and language arts instructional strategies. Knowledge of classroom management techniques and behavior support practices. Knowledge of federal Title I program requirements and objectives. Skill in providing academic support to individual students and small groups. Skill in assisting teachers with lesson preparation and instructional activities. Skill in monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate records. Skill in communicating effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents. Skill in using computers, educational technology, and office software applications. Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic needs. Ability to follow teacher directions and implement instructional plans consistently. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and families. Ability to reinforce academic concepts and provide individualized support. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Reliable transportation necessary. Minimal travel within the City of Lynchburg as needed.
