Applicants must have experience working with the designated age group and able to work 8:30 AM-5:30 PM and 9 AM-6 PM shifts to be considered for this position. Langley Children's Center (LCC) an employer-sponsored and NAEYC accredited program in Northern Va. seeks, 4 Assistant Teachers to join four different classroom teams. Assistant Teachers will join a team of two, current teachers and groups of 8 to 12 children. Based on experience, education, and preference candidates can expect to work with children between 1.5 to 3 years of age. Assistants work cooperatively with co-teachers to plan and facilitate daily learning experiences, and write a small number of weekly observations for child portfolios. The ideal applicants will have an understanding of typical and atypical child development , experience in teaching in and planning a play-based program based on observations of children and working with 1.5-3 year olds. Working closely with other educators, teachers plan and implement an emergent curriculum , routinely observe and document children's learning (writing weekly anecdotal observations), manage individual child and group behaviors , and build sensitive and responsive relationships with children and parents.

Role Responsibilities:

• Facilitates developmentally appropriate, emergent and inquiry-based project work; works cooperatively and collaboratively with a larger teaching team.
• Regularly observes, assesses and documents children's development, learning and individual and group work for all learning domains. Writes and maintains child observation records and work samples for inclusion in children's portfolios.
• Effectively manages children's behavior as individuals and as part of the group.
• Collaborates and communicates with other co-workers.
• Prepares the daily classroom environment ensuring it is organized, beautiful and inviting for all children and adults; complies with licensing regulations and NAEYC accreditation standards.
• Shares information daily with parents about their child's day; participates in Parent-Teacher conferences sharing child observations and information about the child's learning and development.

Requirements:

• REQUIRED

  : US Citizenship and able to be approved for a Secret-level security clearance after a comprehensive Federal background investigation.
• A CDA-Infant Specialization or an Associate degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching within a child-led play and inquiry-based approach to early childhood education.
• Experience writing detailed observations of children and developing child portfolios.
• Able to lift up to 40 pounds, engage in repetitive movements (sitting, standing, bending, lifting) indoors and outside, and sit on the floor for extended periods of time with children.
