Job Description

OVUU is accepting applications for an anticipated paraeducator opening at Neshobe Elementary School to begin working September 24, 2026. The expected schedule is Monday-Friday, 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week.

The Paraeducator supports the safety, well-being, behavioral growth, and academic development of students within educational and community settings. Paraeducators work collaboratively with teachers and school staff to provide instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support that helps students successfully access learning throughout the school day. Paraeducators are expected to foster positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environments through trauma-informed and restorative practices that support student dignity, belonging, accountability, and relationship-building. Responsibilities include supporting students in accordance with district expectations, educational plans, school procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and policies. Paraeducators also help maintain safe, orderly, and supportive learning environments for all students.

Local Paraeducator Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Local Paraeducator is to provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students as directed by classroom teachers and school

staff. Support may occur within classrooms, small groups, individual settings, or community-based environments. Paraeducators may work with multiple students and transition between classrooms or programs throughout the school day. All Paraeducators are expected to interact with students, families, staff, and community members in a respectful, dignified, and professional manner. Verbal and physical interactions with students should be calm, courteous, supportive, and morale-enhancing. Paraeducators are expected to utilize trauma-informed and restorative approaches that emphasize relationship-building, de-escalation, problem-solving, and helping students repair harm and remain connected to the learning community whenever possible. Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to "need-to-know" guidelines is essential both within the school setting and in the community. The classroom teacher serves as the primary point of communication regarding student progress, support needs, and concerns. Ongoing communication and collaboration with teachers and staff are critical to ensuring consistency in student support, accommodations, behavioral expectations, and instructional practices. Due to the nature of the role, Paraeducators frequently interact with students, staff, faculty, and families

throughout the school day and are expected to consistently demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, empathy, and respect in all interactions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Receives, implements, and reinforces the verbal or written instructions from the classroom teacher.

Supervises/monitors/assists students in the classroom, hallways, school grounds, cafeteria, and during recess and car/bus line (as assigned)

Understanding of accommodations and classroom expectations while providing student support

Assist teachers in evaluating the student's progress by data collection in assigned program areas. Teachers will report progress and issues directly to the parents.

Provides successful and rewarding educational experiences to children

Collaborates with classroom teachers, special educators, administration and other members of the school community

Assists in implementing lessons or programs as designed by classroom teacher

Receive instructions from the classroom teacher as appropriate, prior to implementing the lesson or program

Actively participating in the district provided professional development opportunities at the start of the school year, during early release and compliance with vector solutions mandatory training.

Carries out the behavior plans as written by the professional staff.

Proactively applying de-escalation techniques and transition to the crisis team as needed with continued involvement.

Be familiar with emergency procedures

Maintain current certification in de-escalation and restraint techniques (ie, CPI)

Reassignment to provide coverage in preschool as determined by the school principal.

Other duties as assigned by the school administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree or equivalent preferred.

Will accept a High School Diploma, meet the standard of being Highly Qualified under Title 1

requirements and pass the Paraeducator Assessment Modules through Master Teacher within the first year of employment.

Complete the necessary PreK training, between 12-15 hours, including a background check.

Maintain current certification in de-escalation and restraint techniques (ie, CPI)
