Job Description
The WSD is seeking a Program Assistant to work with our middle & high school intensive team providing support to students regarding emotional regulation, academics, social and functional skills. This may include working with individual students and small groups. Responsibilities may include (not an exhaustive list): Ability to provide specific academic instruction under the direction of a special educator to individual students and small groups.
Assist students with personal care such as washing face & hands, dressing, eating, toileting, etc.
Assist with the development and implementation of behavior and crisis plans.
Collaborate with teachers and staff to discuss behavior management strategies and obtain necessary information for successfully addressing challenging behavior.
Model effective behavior management strategies to students, teachers and staff.
Assist students when they are accessing the mainstream. Keep detailed data on student progress using task analysis, behavioral charts and other measures.
Attend and participate in team meetings when appropriateAttend and participate in all relevant training such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
Implement CPI strategies within the classroom.
Effectively manage escalated student behavior.
Support select students in off campus activities such as Bridging, field trips, community events, etc.
Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Support Services and/or the classroom teacher/special educator in the intensive classroom.
The requirements listed below are typical of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Completed at least 2 years of study (defined as a minimum of 48 credit hours) at an institution of higher education; orObtained an associate's (or higher) degree; orMet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal State or local academic assessment: i. Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing,mathematics; andii. Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writingreadiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. Knowledge of children with disabilities of special education students, and special education teaching methods preferred.
Ability to speak effectively. Basic computer skillsAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies. Ability to show patience, respect and compassion in working with students. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and handle stress. Experience working with children/adolescents. 35 Hours per week - School Year Position
