In this role, you will support our Lead Teachers and classroom teams in providing a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. Assistant Teachers/Floaters play an important role in maintaining classroom coverage, supporting daily routines, engaging children in meaningful learning experiences, and helping ensure compliance with Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) licensing requirements. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with children across multiple age groups while growing professionally in the field of early childhood education. Essential Responsibilities Assist Lead Teachers with implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and learning experiences that support children's cognitive, social-emotional, physical, language, and creative development. Provide active supervision of children at all times, including during classroom activities, meals, diapering/toileting, nap/rest periods, outdoor play, transitions, and other daily routines. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment in accordance with Kiddie Academy policies and Washington State licensing requirements. Support classroom routines and transitions while maintaining appropriate staff-to-child ratios and providing consistent supervision. Engage children in meaningful play, conversation, exploration, and learning experiences. Assist Lead Teachers with preparing classroom materials, learning centers, activities, and the classroom environment. Support positive guidance and behavior management strategies that are developmentally appropriate and consistent with program policies. Model kindness, patience, respect, appropriate communication, and positive social interactions for children. Provide individualized support to children based on their developmental needs, interests, abilities, and individual learning goals. Support children with disabilities and/or developmental differences in accordance with program policies and individualized plans when applicable. Assist with daily care routines, including meals, handwashing, diapering, toileting, rest periods, and personal hygiene. Follow all health and safety procedures, including proper handwashing, sanitation, food safety, allergy procedures, safe sleep practices, and emergency procedures. Complete required health and safety documentation and classroom records accurately and in a timely manner. Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, teachers, administrators, and other team members. Protect the confidentiality and privacy of children and families. Follow Washington State mandated reporter requirements and immediately report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with state law and program policy. Follow all Kiddie Academy policies, procedures, licensing requirements, and guidance from the Center Director and Lead Teachers. Work cooperatively across classrooms and age groups as a Floater and provide coverage where needed while maintaining appropriate supervision and ratios. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, training, and other program activities as required. Maintain a professional and dependable work ethic, including punctuality, attendance, flexibility, and a willingness to support the needs of the center. Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director or Assistant Director. . Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age to serve in the Assistant Teacher role. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent . Must complete and maintain all required Washington State/DCYF background check requirements. Must complete required TB screening/testing documentation in accordance with Washington State requirements. Must complete applicable DCYF preservice requirements . Must complete required health and safety training, including: Child Care Basics (CCB) Basic/Standard First Aid CPR Bloodborne Pathogens Food Handler Permit, when applicable Safe Sleep training, when applicable Must complete required training within the applicable Washington State timelines and maintain current certifications as required. Must complete required ongoing professional development, including 10 hours of annual in-service training and Enhancing Quality of Early Learning (EQEL) requirements when applicable. Beginning August 1, 2026, Assistant Teachers must obtain a Washington State ECE Initial Certificate or equivalent within five years of being hired or promoted into the Assistant Teacher position , as required by

WAC 110-300.

Professional development progress must be documented annually. Washington State DCYF identifies these requirements specifically for center-based Assistant Teachers. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, or school-age children preferred. Previous experience in a licensed child care, preschool, early learning, education, or similar setting preferred. Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with children, families, and coworkers. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a classroom team. Patient, nurturing, dependable, and enthusiastic approach to working with children. Ability to follow health, safety, sanitation, and licensing requirements consistently. Willingness to work with children across multiple age groups as needed. CPR and First Aid certification preferred at the time of hire; otherwise, willingness and ability to obtain required certifications within the applicable DCYF timeframe. Physical Requirements The Assistant Teacher/Floater must be able to safely perform the physical duties associated with caring for young children, including: Standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, kneeling, and moving throughout the classroom and playground. Safely lifting and carrying children and classroom materials when necessary. Participating in active indoor and outdoor play. Responding quickly to children's needs and emergency situations. Maintaining adequate supervision of children throughout the workday.
