Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The function of a paraeducator is to support students by providing additional assistance and accommodations to help them succeed academically. Paraeducators also contribute to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, fostering the emotional and social growth of students. Their role is essential in facilitating an effective and collaborative educational experience for all students, ensuring that each individual receives the attention and assistance they require to reach their full potential.JOB PURPOSE
Support the educational and developmental needs of students under the guidance of administrators, ESD staff, and certified teachers or educators.QUALIFICATIONS
must be legally authorized to work in the United States and at least 18 years of age at the time of employment HS diploma or equivalent valid First Aid/CPR Certification preferred passing score of 455 on the ETS© ParaPro Test, or show evidence of college credits (72 quarter credits/48 semester credits) completion of the FCS (Fundamental Course of Study, a 28-hour required training) within the first year of employment earn the General Paraeducator Certificate (an additional 70-hour training) within three years of completing theFCS DUTIES
Assisting inInstruction:
Provide instructional support to students under the direction of Administrator, ESD staff, the classroom teacher, or Lead Paraeducator. This may involve working with individuals or small groups, reinforcing lessons, and providing additional explanation or examples as neededClassroom Management:
Help maintain a positive and productive learning environment by assisting with behavior management and enforcing rules in multiple classrooms while promoting a culture of respect and cooperation in all venues.Student Support:
Offer academic and emotional support to students, including those with special needs or learning challenges. This may involve providing encouragement, helping with assignments, and offering assistance with organization and time management. Paraeducators will be requested to assist other students or undertake different tasks as needed, particularly when their student of focus is absent or the classroom is vacant. This typically occurs when students are working independently, collaborating with the classroom teacher, or working with other school staff, including service providers.Adaptation of Materials:
Modify instructional materials and resources to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with disabilities or language barriers. This could involve creating visual aids, adapting worksheets, or using assistive technology.Data Collection and Reporting:
Assist in collecting data on student progress and behavior, including maintaining records and documentation as required by school policies, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and/or 504 Plans. Collaboration withTeachers:
Collaborate closely with ESD staff and classroom teachers to support the implementation of lesson plans and educational strategies, and to discuss student progress, concerns, and individualized interventions.Supervision and Safety:
Monitor students during classroom activities, transitions, and recess/breaks in order to ensure their safety and well-being at all times. This may include escorting students between classes or providing supervision during lunch and other non-classroom times. Communication withFamilies:
Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns or issues that arise as directed by ESD staff and the classroom teacher.SPECIAL DEMANDS
ability to read printed material and to understand speech at normal levels in person, on the telephone, or on other District communication devices ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing proficiency in operating necessary equipment including computers and software ability to occasionally lift/carry supplies, materials, and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs ability to walk 8,000-10,000 steps daily willingness to interact with students in multiple venues including the classroom, school transportation, common areas, gyms, lunchrooms, playground, and other areas as neededADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
perform personal need duties including bathroom assistance, diapering, feeding, and fully assisting (possibly lifting) individual students as needed attend in-service trainings as required other duties as assigned (perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by school administrators, ESD staff, or classroom teachers which may include interacting with other students, clerical work, preparing instructional materials, or assisting with special events and projects - keeping in mind that specific duties may vary based on the changing needs of the student, grade level, and school)BENEFITS INCLUDE
