Months Appointment Type Full Time Description SUMMARY:
The Special Education Program Support Teacher provides direct diagnostic/consultative services to children that are suspected to have a disability. The purpose is to assist the special education administrative/instructional personnel and regular education teaching staff in evaluating, instructing, and individual educational planning for children with suspected and identified disabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as the Local Education Agency representative on individualized education program (IEP) as deemed necessary by administration. 2. Supports special education programs for students with disabilities. 3. Consults with teachers, principals, and special education staff regarding the improvement of student programs. 4. Serves as a liaison between administrative, special education and general education staff. 5. Evaluates special education student programs and identifies future needs of the students. 6. Recommends budgetary priorities for students with disabilities. 7. Supports the orientation of new special education teachers to the district. 8. Assists special education teachers in classroom orientation at the start of the school year. 9. Assists in the orientation of new special education Educational Support Professionals. 10. Assists in determining special education program duties. 11. Assesses students as part of the IEP team process and serves as diagnostician for the IEP team process. 12. Reviews with the special education teacher, administration, and regular education teacher the IEP team recommendations as appropriate. 13. Participates in parent conferences as part of the IEP process. 14. Provides assistance to special education teachers to provide appropriate IEPs. 15. Ensures teachers know how to assess and collect data for evaluating student IEP goals. 16. Communicates with special education teachers on a regular basis. 17. Plans for, coordinates, and conducts staff meetings. 18. Coordinates, conducts, and/or participates in professional development programs for special education staff, other district staff, community, and parents. 19. Models various teaching strategies in classrooms that benefit all children. 20. Works with parent groups, as assigned to develop an understanding of children with disabilities. 21. Serves on district committees as a representative for, and advocate of students with disabilities. 22. Establishes and maintains communication when appropriate with community agencies, pediatricians, physicians, etc. 23. Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to execute an efficient and effective process for recording student attainment of learning goals and make that information available for students review. 7. Ability to accurately assess the effectiveness of instructional activities used through data review and identifies specific ways in which a lesson might be improved. 8. Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology. 9. Consistently meets professional teacher education requirements of the school, district and state. 10. Leadership skills including appropriate organization, creativity, flexibility and resourcefulness. 11. Facilitation, consensus building and conflict resolution skills. 12. Demonstrate the highest level of ethical behavior. 13. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. 14. Basic computer skills, email, Outlook calendar, and web based programs. 15. Ability to display proactive behavior through initiative, decisiveness and the ability to work independently.
