Job Description
The Assistant Teacher collaborates with the lead teacher in creating an inviting stimulating and safe learning environment. A strong relationship between the Assistant Teacher and the Lead Teacher is vital to the success of our program. As an early childhood professional, each assistant Teacher is expected to contribute to a working environment that is friendly, respectful, honest and open. Assistant Teachers collaborate with other teachers and classrooms, working together to share ideas and to develop joint projects and activities. Within the classroom, the Assistant Teacher will assist the Lead Teachers in providing quality care for children and in communicating with the families. Assistant teachers and Lead Teachers work collaboratively under the supervision of the Director or Administrator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist in the planning and implementation of the daily program. Classroom supervision in the absence of the Lead Teacher. Must attend all staff meetings, conferences and required trainings. Assist children in developing good habits including personal hygiene including but not limited to diaper changing and toilet training. Assists in keeping families informed about the activities of the class. Maintains good relationships with other teachers and parents. Accepts other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor. Assists Lead Teacher with keeping child portfolios up to date.ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Maintain open communication with staff and parents. Able to contribute to a working environment that is friendly, respectful, honest and open. Able to maintain a strong relationship with the Lead Teacher. Demonstrates ability to collaborate with other teachers and classrooms, working together to share ideas and to develop join projects and activities. Honesty, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality.QUALIFICATIONS
Be at least 17 years old Have satisfactorily completed 2 credits in early childhood education or its equivalent within 6 months after assuming the position or have satisfactorily completed one, non-credit department approved course in early childhood education within 6 months after assuming the position Ability to be flexible in scheduling to meet the needs of the overall program. Willingness to mentor staff. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written Honesty, integrity and commitment to confidentiality. Ability to assume the role of the Lead Teacher in their absence. Ability to demonstrate creative problem solving skills, patience, good judgement and resourcefulness in work. Ability to pass a criminal background check and health screening including a TB test. Commit to doing the required 15 Hours of continuing education, annually. After fully meeting training requirements, can be the staff person in charge for the first two or last two hours of the day Ability to lift 25 poundsPay:
