$21.88+ per hour (based on experience) This position is full time, 7.5 hours per day (7:15 am
  • 3:15 pm), Monday through Friday during the school year.
This position comes with paid time off, paid holidays and is benefit eligible. Summary The purpose of this position is to provide the best academic and social/emotional environment to ensure learning for all students in the educational environment. To create a learning experience that maximizes the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of the students and helps them to learn to problem solve. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Must be able to take and follow through with directives and instructions consistently from the teacher, as well as be able to independently make decisions and solve problems. Leads small groups and one-on-one instruction under the guidance of a teacher. Facilitates the inclusion of students whenever and wherever possible, be that the classroom or the community; also promotes acceptance of differences with students, staff and community. Maintains a safe learning atmosphere for students to enable them to meet or surpass their capabilities. Makes a personal connection with students demonstrating that they are caring adults who will listen and facilitate other internal and external interventions as needed. Provides supervision and self-care assistance for students. Communicates with parents and students during drop off and pick up to ensure a safe and orderly environment during transitions. Assisting students in identifying actions and consequences and ways to resolve conflicts and solve problems, intervening when students' actions are potentially harmful or dangerous. Performs various duties to assist the teacher, including copying, filing, data entry, laminating, binding, preparing materials, and other projects as needed. Prepares materials and participates in activities to support the beginning of the school year. Prepares and maintains detailed notes, plans and materials for substitutes when absent. Provide basic first aid to students; contact parents of sick or injured students; maintain injury logs and participate in appropriate training sessions, such as blood borne pathogens, medical skill training, CPR, first aid, etc. Maintains confidentiality of student records. Model Positive Behavior Instructional Support (PBIS) with students and participates in PBIS planning teams as requested. Collaborate with other school personnel regarding student achievement, classroom instruction and behavioral expectations. Follows all relevant district policies and procedures including District Technology Use Policy throughout work day. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions High school graduate with technical training in Early Childhood education, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities Must meet the following NCLB standards for this position: Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education Obtained an associate's degree (or higher) OR Be able to demonstrate through a formal assessment, the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics. Must be willing to attend the following district workshops: PBIS training First Aid, CPR/AED training Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Must possess a valid driver's license Minimum Physical and Mental Abilities Required to
Perform Essential Job Functions:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to 90% of an eight-hour day, without back support. Ability to stand/walk on uneven surfaces with changing conditions outdoors (grass, hills, playground mulch, paved areas, etc.). Ability to reach in all directions with full range of motion, bend/stoop and use hand/eye coordination to assist students in any required capacity when needed. Ability to freely move throughout the building; to stand, walk, talk, hear; move from floor to standing quickly to keep pace with students both in crisis and non-crisis times. Ability to complete job duties in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm while maintaining concentration and focus. Provide classroom and individual student behavioral support and associated record keeping as needed including data entry. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including photocopier, laminating machine, paper cutter, die cut, binder, scanner, computer, printer, etc. Must have current physical exam on file with the district certifying employee is able to meet all job qualifications. Mathematical Ability Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate decimals and percentages Ability to do basic algebra and geometry Ability to pass a skills performance task at the level they are supporting Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication Ability to comprehend, interpret and/or prepare a variety of documents, including attendance reports, , disciplinary reports, etc., test and instructional materials, confidential files, health cards, , student/family handbook, purchase orders, etc., using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Ability to read, write, and speak and to do so with expression. Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures and follow instructions. Ability to make fast decisions, recognize early signs of negative behavior, and remain calm Ability to problem solve, use professional judgment and maintain confidentiality of information concerning students and staff. Ability to communicate effectively with professional educators, colleagues, students, parents, administrators, sales representatives, delivery persons, police officers, School Board members, nurses, transportation representatives, the general public, and others verbally and in writing. Ability to engage students in culturally responsive, positive working relationships that demonstrate to students that staff members are helpful, caring adults. Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow instructions. Ability to use and interpret special education terminology Ability to be responsive to curriculum changes Ability to prioritize tasks requiring timelines and accuracy. Ability to be a collaborative and confidential team member. Environmental Adaptability Ability to create and maintain a positive learning environment. Noise level in environment can be loud.
