Job Description
Provide support to students while they are being transported to and from school, ensuring a safe, positive, and orderly bus environment. Assist students with special needs and/or other students as directed by the Transportation Director, Special Education staff, and building administrators. Responsibilities include following established transportation procedures and student transportation plans; assisting students with boarding and exiting the bus; securing wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment as needed; monitoring student behavior and implementing behavior support plans when applicable; assisting students during emergencies and evacuation drills; maintaining effective communication with bus drivers, and school staff as appropriate; ensuring student safety throughout transportation routes; and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, including students with special needs, and follow instructions provided by supervisors and transportation staff. Team-oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work cooperatively with bus drivers, school staff, students, and families. Ability to work in dynamic and diverse environments; demonstrate flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in a variety of situations. Ability to provide direct support to students while maintaining a safe and orderly bus environment. Prior experience working with children and/or individuals with developmental, physical, or educational disabilities preferred. CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification upon hire. Ability to assist students with mobility needs, including lifting, positioning, and securing adaptive equipment, as required.
Salary:
District Support Services Wage Schedule (2026-27 general para base = $18.65/hour; a para holding B.A. in education base = $19.65 per hour)
Employment Term:
20 hours per week (175 student days) this is a non-benefit eligible position
Beginning Date:
August 20, 2026 with training before that date
