$18.00-$23.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications Job Overview We are a family in Van Buren seeking a dependable, patient, organized, and caring Homeschool Nanny & Family Assistant to help with the daily education, supervision, and routine of our two school-aged boys, currently in 1st and 5th grade. This position is more than traditional childcare. A major part of the role is helping our boys successfully complete their homeschool curriculum while developing good study habits, responsibility, independence, and accountability. We provide the curriculum, educational programs, materials, and overall educational direction. We are not looking for someone to create a curriculum or lesson plan from scratch. The right person will be able to guide two children at different grade levels, provide tutoring and additional explanation when necessary, keep the boys focused and accountable, and create a positive but structured learning environment. Primary Responsibilities Homeschool & Educational Support Guide both boys through their assigned homeschool curriculum Monday-Friday. Assist with elementary-level math, reading, phonics, language arts, writing, science, history, Bible, and other assigned subjects. Provide one-on-one tutoring and additional explanations when either child is struggling with a concept. Ensure assigned lessons, worksheets, educational videos, reading, studying, and activities are completed. Review completed work for accuracy and completeness. Help the boys correct mistakes and understand concepts rather than simply giving them answers. Help with studying for quizzes, tests, spelling words, and other assessments. Encourage age-appropriate independent learning and good study habits. Keep homeschool materials and learning areas organized. Communicate academic concerns or areas needing additional attention to the parents. Daily Routine & Accountability Maintain a consistent and productive daily routine. Ensure required schoolwork, studying, and reading are completed. Ensure the boys complete their assigned household chores and responsibilities. Encourage independence rather than completing age-appropriate responsibilities for them. Maintain reasonable structure, expectations, and boundaries. Help the boys learn responsibility, organization, and time management. Meals/Snacks & Child-Related Household Responsibilities Prepare lunch/snacks or assist the boys in preparing their own. Encourage age-appropriate cooking and life skills. Supervise cleanup after meals. Help maintain an organized homeschool area. Ensure the boys clean up after themselves and complete their assigned chores. This is not a general housekeeping position . Responsibilities are primarily related to the children, their education, and their daily activities. Transportation Once the boys have completed their required schoolwork, studying, reading, and chores for the day, the employee will transport them to their mother's office in the Van Buren area. The employee will generally use their own vehicle and will receive mileage reimbursement for approved work-related transportation . Once the boys have been safely transferred to their mother or another approved adult, the workday may end.
Schedule Regular availability is required:
Monday-Friday Approximately 8:00 AM-3:00 PM Some days may end earlier when all required schoolwork, studying, reading, chores, and other responsibilities have been satisfactorily completed. We expect the position to generally average approximately 30-35 hours per week . Additional hours may occasionally be available depending on family needs.
Qualifications Required:
Previous experience tutoring elementary-aged children. Comfortable assisting children at two different grade levels. Strong basic math, reading, writing, and communication skills. Patient, dependable, organized, and punctual. Comfortable maintaining structure and holding children accountable. Able to work independently without requiring constant parental direction. Valid driver's license. Reliable and safe transportation. Current automobile insurance. Willing to complete background and reference screening. Able to provide relevant professional, tutoring, childcare, educational, or personal references.
Preferred:
Previous homeschool experience. Nanny, tutoring, teaching, classroom, paraprofessional, or childcare experience. Experience working with multiple children simultaneously. Familiarity with Christian-based homeschool curriculum. CPR and First Aid certification. Previous Christian homeschool experience is preferred but not required . Applicants must, however, be comfortable professionally assisting the boys with the Christian-based curriculum selected by our family. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who can be caring and encouraging while also maintaining expectations and accountability. There will be days when one child finishes before the other, someone does not want to complete an assignment, a lesson becomes frustrating, or chores still need to be completed. The right person should be comfortable working through normal challenges independently while maintaining patience and consistency. Our goal is not simply to have someone watch our children. We want someone who will become a dependable part of their weekday routine and help them grow academically and personally. Compensation $18.00-$23.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Compensation will be based on relevant tutoring, education, homeschool, nanny, and childcare experience. Approved mileage incurred while transporting the children during working hours will be reimbursed separately. Paid time off and holiday policies are currently being evaluated and will be discussed with the selected candidate before employment. Additional Opportunities There may occasionally be opportunities for additional hours or family travel in the future.
