In collaboration with the strategic initiatives implemented by the Writing Program Lead Faculty Member, the Associate Director oversees, supports, and assesses activities serving APU students (graduate, undergraduate, and professional) across two Azusa campuses and multiple regional sites. The Associate Director oversees the campus specialized tutoring programs intended to provide basic tutoring services to APU students. These tutoring programs include department focused programs such as math, theology, and other GE foundational courses, as well as grant funded programs such as Learning Assistants. The Associate Director may plan and implement the Summer Bridge program each summer based on available funding; this program is focused on first-generation, low-income students who have been historically underrepresented in higher education. This 5-week, residential program is designed to provide these students with an excellent start to their APU career. The associate Director is responsible for recruiting students and for supervising the faculty and graduate assistants who work with the program. The Writing and Tutoring Center and the Seminar Bridge program support a diverse student population, requiring the Associate Director to have a strong record in and commitment to inclusive excellence and the Christian principle of imago dei. Required Education Bachelor's required, Master's preferred. Required Experience Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including at least three years with supervisory and budget management responsibilities. Minimum two years of experience in a university writing or tutoring center, with background in tutoring, supplemental instruction, learning communities, or similar academic support programs. Some experience with first-year student support programs such as first-generation mentoring, student support services, or federal grants such as TRiO. Experience in working in a multicultural environment, and in modeling culturally relevant practice. Experience and expertise in working with multilingual students is preferred given the fact that approximately ¿ of our students self-identify as multilingual. Primary Duties/Essential Functions Provide oversight and coordination of writing and speaking coaching of students across the university's multiple campuses and across multiple degree levels. Oversee all aspects of the daily operation of the Writing and Tutoring Center, possibly in multiple locations, including overseeing budgeting and public relations. Hire, train, and supervise full-time coordinator, part-time staff writing coaches, and peer student coaches and tutors (including Learning Assistants) who implement the latest in writing and tutoring center theory and practice across multidisciplinary genres and different writing and learning stages. Promote and publicize the services of the Writing and Tutoring Center (e.g., programs, philosophy, and procedures) to the campus community. Communicate regularly with faculty and academic departments in regards to writing and tutoring consultant referrals, specific writing and tutoring issues, and other relevant information. Provide ongoing professional development for Writing and Tutoring Center staff related to writing and learning theory and practice, including online delivery of writing support and tutoring services. Plan, implement, and assess the Summer Bridge program each summer when funding is available. Recruit students (15-20 each summer) and supervise faculty and graduate assistants who work with the program. Explore Learning Community programs with relevant academic departments. Provide support when applicable. Serve on the Student Retention Advisory Committee and the Title V HSI Grant Advisory Board and Implementation Team. Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university. Compensation Grade 12: $70,304 to $76,619 is the annual compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
