Job Description

Location:
Lafayette / Walnut Creek area,
California Schedule:
Summer start preferred; during summer weekday late mornings ideal. When new school year resumes, would transition to after-school tutoring about 2x per week
Compensation:
$50-100/hr Thrive Education Partners is seeking an experienced, highly relational educator to support a bright elementary-aged student with ADHD, autism-spectrum traits, and significant challenges related to written expression, fine motor development, and task avoidance around writing-based work. This is not a traditional tutoring role. The ideal candidate is deeply patient, emotionally attuned, creative, and experienced working with neurodivergent learners who require individualized support, encouragement, and relationship-based instruction. The student is intellectually bright and highly verbal, but struggles with handwriting stamina, expressive writing, emotional overwhelm during difficult tasks, and confidence around academic output. He responds best to calm, encouraging adults who can build trust, break tasks into manageable steps, and creatively motivate learning through games, incentives, and positive reinforcement. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one academic support focused on: expressive writing development handwriting/fine motor support executive functioning and task initiation confidence-building around academic work Create highly individualized, engaging lessons and activities Break challenging tasks into manageable steps Use encouragement, gamification, and relationship-building to increase student engagement Monitor emotional regulation and adjust instruction in real time Collaborate with parents regarding strategies, progress, and student needs Ideal Candidate Background in education, special education, literacy intervention, occupationally-informed academic support, educational therapy, psychology, or related fields Experience supporting students with ADHD, autism spectrum profiles, anxiety, executive functioning challenges, and/or PDA-like behaviors Strong understanding of neurodivergent learners and emotional regulation Warm, calm, flexible, and emotionally intelligent personality Skilled at building trust with hesitant or resistant learners Creative and engaging instructional style Comfortable adapting instruction moment-to-moment based on student needs Strong communication and professionalism with families Preferred Qualifications Teaching credential or advanced coursework in education/special education Experience with writing intervention or literacy support Experience working one-on-one with neurodivergent elementary students Familiarity with executive functioning strategies and motivational systems Logistics Sessions take place in home. The family would like to start over the summer and continue through next school year. Summer sessions can be during the week, late morning hours. When school resumes, we would transition to after-school sessions about 2x per week.
