After School Tutor

About Gateway Educational Services was established in 2009 by educators, business professionals and community leaders passionate about changing access to education and the ways in which students learn. We are Santa Barbara's only non-profit learning center. We have a new location in Lompoc and we are looking for tutors who are passionate about education.

Responsibilities:

Tutor students from grades K-6. Assist students with assignments and help them develop effective problem-solving skills. Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback and encouragement.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday between 2:00pm - 6:30pm. Shifts will vary (most tutors work 4-6 hours per week).

Pay:

$19.00 to $23.00 depending on experience

Requirements:

2 - 3 years of tutoring experience - please do not apply if you do not have tutoring experience. Minimum 2 year Associate's Degree. All tutors receive 14 hours of training and must attend monthly training meetings. Required background check, TB test, and proof of vaccination. Strong knowledge and proficiency in English and math. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain concepts in a clear and concise manner. Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students of all ages. Flexibility in adapting teaching strategies to meet the unique learning styles of each student. A passion for education and a desire to make a positive impact on students' lives. Our environment is positive and fun; we are looking for tutors that will set good examples for our students. Our tutors work at Gateway for 2 - 3 years and they build amazing relationships with our students and staff. We love supporting first generation students and many of our former tutors are now teaching and working in education. This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling options.
