Job Summary Job Summary Under the supervision of Administration, AVID coordinator/ elective and content teachers, tutors will perform the following tasks: 1. Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for students and peer tutors to follow. 2. Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator, AVID elective, and content teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern. 3. Facilitate and monitor the movement of tutorial and other collaborative study groups. 4. Conduct tutorial sessions in all subject areas with an emphasis in science and mathematics: therefore, a strong math and science background is mandatory. 5. Use the Socratic model of questioning throughout the tutorial process, encouraging students to think critically and form their own answers. 6. Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by students in the AVID elective and other content areas. 7. During non- tutorial time tutor circulates maintaining an ACTIVE not PASSIVE role in classroom. 8. Monitor, support, and maintain the AVID standard of Focused Notes and tutorial. 9. Evaluate students' binders, including organizers, class and textbook notes. 10. Attend mandatory 16 hours ofMVUSD/RIMS AVID
Tutor Training and regular site trainings to better understand the AVID elective and its mission, philosophy, and methodologies to successfully support students.Requirements / Qualifications

Applicants must be able to actively tutor in Math and Science at a minimum level of Algebra II and Chemistry. Hours could be up to 25 hours a week. Flexible between hours of 8:30am - 3:00pm.
