ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY SUMMARY
MEP-WISE is currently hiring six (6) tutors. Maximizing Engineering Potential (MEP) and Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) operate a tutoring program located in the Engineering Learning Center (Room 9-169). While tutoring services are primarily designed to support
MEP-WISE
students, they are available to all College of Engineering students, regardless of major. The primary focus of
MEP-WISE
Tutoring is to assist incoming engineering and STEM students with foundational mathematics, physics, and science courses. Depending on a tutor's academic background and year in school, tutoring support may also be available for selected upper-division core courses (2000-, 3000-, and occasionally 4000-level) within specific majors. Supported courses vary by term based on tutor expertise and program needs.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO
(this is just a small sampling of work variety): Tutors will support math, physics, and engineering courses.
Expected responsibilities include:
Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings Increase the participation of students via recruitment efforts Conduct tutoring and supplemental instruction for participants Monitor participant attendance and performance; provide follow-up, as needed Prepare worksheets and solutions for each workshop session Complete data/summary reports and other documentation Work closely with Academic Retention Coordinator to advocate for participants
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: Current Cal Poly Pomona undergraduate pursuing STEM degree.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Current Cal Poly Pomona undergraduate pursuing STEM degree. Minimum 3.0 GPA (Cal Poly Pomona and overall) Currently enrolled for minimum 6.0 units (undergraduate) or 4.0 units (graduate) Experience working with students from different majors, cultures, and backgrounds Working knowledge in courses in which they are tutoring Experience facilitating group tutoring services, conducting learning/cooperative groups
