Non-Exempt Overview Sylvan Learning is a leading provider of tutoring to students of all ages, grades, and skill levels. Sylvan @ Schools brings our proven programming directly to school campuses. Our school partnerships provide an opportunity to offer students a small-group learning experience and individualized academic support. Sylvan @ Schools Tutors create a positive, personal learning experience for students by providing instruction using Sylvan program materials. This role is essential to helping students achieve their educational goals by teaching skills, clarifying concepts, building confidence, and fostering independent learning. Our tutors provide academic support to K-12 students in reading and math. Job Responsibilities Deliver guided, scripted curriculum and/or lesson support to groups of up to 10 students. Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment. Engage, monitor, and manage assigned students throughout instructional sessions. Utilize Sylvan's motivation program to positively impact student attendance, engagement, and performance. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress. Prepare and organize instructional materials needed for assigned sessions. Maintain awareness of the instructional environment and respond appropriately to student needs, behavior, and potential safety concerns. Participate in required trainings and staff meetings. Collaborate with Leads and Directors to ensure smooth program execution. Follow SCL and school-site procedures related to student supervision, safety, and program operations. Speak Mandarin to help support our ESL students while teaching the Sylvan curriculum. Compensation and Schedule $25-$27 per hour.

Training rate:

$18.25 per hour (10-16 hours) Tutors can generally expect to be scheduled for approximately 1.5-3 hours per day, 3-4 days per week. Tutors will be assigned to a specific school site. Program hours generally fall between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and may vary based on the needs and bell schedule of the assigned school. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree or completion of at least two years of college toward a four-year degree. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Ability to reliably report to the assigned school site at scheduled times. Must obtain a TB clearance and complete a Live Scan background check. Preferred Qualifications Previous teaching or tutoring experience. Work Environment / Essential Functional Requirements This position is performed in an active school-site environment and requires direct instruction and supervision of groups of students. Tutors may work with limited on-site SCL supervision and are expected to independently manage assigned instructional responsibilities. To perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to: Access, read, comprehend, and use printed and digital curriculum, lesson materials, student information, schedules, attendance records, and other information necessary to provide instruction. Deliver guided or scripted curriculum and instructional support accurately and consistently in accordance with SCL program requirements. Simultaneously instruct, engage, monitor, and manage groups of up to 10 students in an active instructional environment. Maintain awareness of students and the instructional environment and respond appropriately to student needs, behavior, and potential safety concerns. Communicate effectively with students, school-site personnel, SCL Leads and Directors, and other employees as necessary to support instruction and program operations. Accurately record and maintain student attendance, progress, and other required program documentation using printed materials, computers, tablets, or Company systems. Organize, prepare, and manage instructional materials and equipment necessary for assigned sessions. Navigate the assigned school-site environment and access classrooms, student work areas, instructional materials, and other locations necessary to perform assigned responsibilities. Sustain the attention, organization, and engagement necessary to independently manage assigned students and instructional responsibilities throughout scheduled sessions.
