K-12 Reading Interventionist / Tutor Learning a la Carte Washington, DC Job Details Part-time $60 - $75 an hour 8 hours ago Benefits Professional development assistance Flexible schedule Qualifications School experience In-person tutoring Experience working with high schoolers Teaching experience with teenagers Private tutoring experience Elementary school teaching experience Coaching high school students Experience working with elementary school students Full Job Description K-12 Reading Interventionist / Tutor About Us Learning a la Carte is looking for a passionate, experienced reading specialist or tutor to support students in Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Northwest DC. We work with students ranging from elementary through high school who need targeted, explicit instruction to build stronger decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills. What You'll Do Work one-on-one with students, elementary through high school, who are reading below grade level or need extra support building stronger reading skills Assess each student's current skills and identify specific gaps Build an individualized plan grounded in the Science of Reading Deliver explicit, systematic instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension Track progress over time so instruction stays responsive to what each student actually needs Meet students in person, either at their school during the day or after school, depending on the family's schedule Communication is a big part of this role — you'll keep families and our internal team informed on how each student is progressing, sharing updates in a way that's clear, warm, and easy for parents to understand. What We're Looking For Well-versed in the Science of Reading, with fluency in current, evidence-based approaches to reading instruction Comfortable using data and informal assessment to pinpoint exactly where a student is, and skilled at translating that into an explicit, structured teaching plan Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and educators alike Genuinely energized by meeting each child exactly where they are and helping them grow — with patience, warmth, and high expectations for every session
