City Year seeks an Academic Tutor and Mentor to support students' academic and social-emotional growth in partner public schools. Serving on a diverse AmeriCorps team, you will provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, reinforce classroom instruction, and track student progress. You will also build trusting relationships, lead positive engagement activities, and model leadership and social justice values. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring in core academic subjects Support classroom instruction under the guidance of teachers Monitor and document student progress and attendance Build mentoring relationships that support students' social-emotional growth Lead or assist with positive engagement and enrichment activities Communicate regularly with teachers and teammates about student needs Participate in City Year training, coaching, and professional development Promote an inclusive, equity-focused learning environment Model leadership, service, and social justice values in school Support school-wide events and initiatives as needed Required Skills Academic tutoring (reading, writing, and/or math) Classroom support and management Student progress monitoring and basic data entry Youth mentoring and relationship-building Basic lesson/activity planning Verbal and written communication Time management and organization Collaborative teamwork in school settings Cultural competency and equity-focused practice Basic technology skills (e.g., Google Suite, email, spreadsheets)
