If you're passionate about education and ready to make a meaningful impact, we'd love to hear from you. About the student 17 year old student The student is autistic and non-verbal. Her ELA and math skills are currently at level 1-3. The student needs to work with a tutor for autism support and working on her ELA and math skills. The family is asking for a tutor with either a (1) a valid Florida educator's certificate, (2) an adjunct teaching certificate) or (3) a valid professional standard teaching certificate issued by another state. The family is asking for a tutor with experience working with students with autism and/or special needs. They would prefer a tutor with a background in special education, ABA, speech support, or a related field. The tutor needs to have lots of patience, creativity, and ability to engage nonverbal learners as well as familiarity with using manipulatives and differentiated instruction. The student is able to read aloud but does not engage in conversational speech. For math, the student is currently struggling with general mathematical operations. The use of manipulatives has historically been beneficial, though her mother's long-term goal is for the student to complete simple math problems independently without them. In reading, the student tends to skim passages quickly and can verbally answer most comprehension questions accurately. The family is seeking a tutor who can support her in strengthening foundational math skills and help bridge her ability to read aloud into more functional communication and conversational skills. The goal is to help the student bridge the gaps in her learning. The family wants 1 hour sessions 2 times a week during their available times. They area available Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3pm-5pm as well as Saturday from 10am-2pm. The family is seeking a tutor who can meet at their home in Tallahassee in the Killearn Estates neighborhood not far from Fermanagh Park. Qualifications Ideal candidates have prior experience working with students with autism and/or special needs. Ideal candidates will have a valid teaching certificate. Ideal candidates will have prior experience using manipulatives and differentiated instruction. Ideal candidates will have a background in special education, ABA, speech support, or a related field. Willing to travel within your preferred local radius to meet the student (typically 5-10 miles) Due to insurance requirements, applicants must not be a minor. Student Availability
