A Tutor works with students who need additional help or review. Provides instruction in an academic subject, or reviews a particular class lesson, or assists with preparing for a test. Works with students one-on-one or in a small group, and usually meets with students outside of school.
Bachelor's Degree Required | $17-$20/hour | Mondays & Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00 PM Huntington Learning Center is seeking dependable, engaging tutors to work with elementary students in a community-based after-school program in Aurora, Illinois during the 2026-2027 school year. This is a great opportunity for teachers looking to earn extra income after school while making a meaningful difference for students in the community. Tutors will work with small groups of students in an active after-school environment that requires patience, flexibility, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to establish and maintain clear expectations. The program runs from late September through April. Because consistency is especially important to the students and the success of the program, we are looking for candidates who can commit to the program for the full program year. What You'll Do Students participate in sessions that combine homework support with Huntington foundational reading skills instruction.
Tutors will:
Work with small groups of approximately five elementary students Provide homework support across elementary subject areas Deliver Huntington foundational reading skills instruction using provided curriculum and materials Help students stay focused, engaged, and productive throughout each session Establish clear expectations and maintain a positive, structured learning environment Redirect students appropriately when needed and support positive student behavior Build encouraging and productive relationships with students Work collaboratively with other Huntington tutors and on-site program staff Schedule Mondays and Tuesdays, 4:00 PM-6:00 PM Approximately 4 hours per week Program runs from late September through April In-person at a community-based after-school program in Aurora, IL Consistent availability throughout the full program year is strongly preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree required Experience working with elementary-age students in a teaching, tutoring, classroom, after-school, coaching, mentoring, or similar setting preferred Strong classroom and small-group management skills Ability to establish clear expectations, redirect students when necessary, and maintain a productive learning environment Ability to provide general homework support across elementary subject areas Strong communication and interpersonal skills Patient, energetic, flexible, and encouraging Dependable and punctual Ability to consistently commit to the Monday/Tuesday schedule from September through April Current and former teachers, substitute teachers, paraprofessionals with a bachelor's degree, experienced tutors, and other candidates with strong experience working with children are encouraged to apply. Compensation $17-$20 per hour , based on experience and qualifications. Huntington provides the curriculum, instructional materials, and program guidance for the foundational skills portion of the program. Looking for additional hours?
