Literacy Tutor at Berryton Elementary School
Schedule:
6.5 hours per day / 172 days per year Reports to: Building Principal / Reading Specialist Purpose and Objectives of the
Position:
The At-Risk Tutor assists the reading specialist in reading and literacy instruction and remediation to students in grades K-6. To accomplish these tasks, the At-Risk Tutor works closely with the reading specialist, teaching staff and administration of the district.
Essential Job Functions:
Ability to note reading difficulties and respond to the individual educational needs of students. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding of reading instruction. Ability to teach music and/or movement skills to kindergarten students Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community. Ability to facilitate the intellectual development of students. Ability to facilitate computer based instruction. Ability to operate all classroom and instructional equipment as required. Ability to adapt to changes in routine and scheduling. Ability to implement the vision and mission of the district.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, turning, and reaching. Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Must have adaptability to situations as they occur, and work in a noisy and crowded environment, with numerous interruptions.
General Responsibilities:
Provides instruction and reinforce skills for students as prescribed by the supervising teacher. Assists teachers in checking and objectively evaluating students' work; teaches students individually, in small groups, and full classes to reinforcing skills based upon instructional guidelines. Prepares or assists in the preparation of instructional materials. Assists in monitoring student progress; makes teacher aware of students learning deficiencies; maintains documentation of learning activities and diagnosis. Participates in on-going professional development focused on job tasks.\ Assists in the preparation of lesson plans and teachers' pre-planning sessions; provides input and assistance in the development of classroom activities and learning. May be assigned monitoring duties, i.e., hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, and bus duty; ensures appropriate student conduct during these periods; escorts students to designated activity areas. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed by this position. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Teacher license preferred. Preferred two years of college credit with a background in reading or language or two years of experience in reading or language instruction. Ability to use personal computer and software. Ability to observe and follow all district policies at all times. Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned. Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. Must verify good health by passing a physical examination, which includes TB and drug test as required. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance. Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential. Ability to work in a team mentality, giving and receiving feedback in a positive manner.
Terms of Employment:
At Will. Salary to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the USD 450 Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and this job description.
