Prison Education Program Job Summary Prison Education Program tutors at Jefferson Community and Technical College serve as in-person tutors at our prison education sites Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women, Luther Luckett Correctional Complex, and Roeder Correctional Complex.
Job Duties:
We are looking to hire tutor(s) to provide academic support to students across a variety of subjects. The ideal candidate(s) will be skilled in adapting instructional methods to individual learning styles, simplifying complex concepts, and fostering academic confidence. Tutor(s) will provide one-to-one or small-group tutoring in person at our facilities across multiple disciplines (math, English, science, reading, etc.). Tutor(s) collaborate with and support students in their learning. Tutor(s) work with the student to make content and learning more accessible, rather than doing the work for the student. Tutor(s) assist students with understanding course concepts, building successful learning and studying habits, and developing a growth mindset. Tutors will need to be available during the hours of 9:00a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Work hours will be determined by tutor availability and the facility leadership. Total hours work will vary weekly. Once hired, tutors will be required to complete professional development and training for support in their tutoring role and work with our prison program students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Strong proficiency in at least two academic subject areas. Prior tutoring or teaching experience preferred. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to explain complex topics in an accessible and engaging manner. Patience, adaptability, and a genuine desire to help students succeed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior work with GED students and/or experience working with incarcerated or formerly incarcerated individuals.
