Dr. Ashley Sweat Job Summary/Basic Functions The Student Success Center is currently hiring Gurus. Eastern Kentucky University's Gurus are tutors, mentors, and peer success coaches who are experienced students that help all EKU students professionally and personally. Student employees assist in achieving goals of the programs for the Student Success Center.
Those goals are as follows:
To provide a supportive environment for students; To assist students in their educational persistence; To serve as a mentor to students; To bring experiences to the team while respecting and valuing other perspectives; To work collaboratively with other EKU student support areas, increase knowledge and understanding of those services, and connect students to those resources; To encourage development of relationships with faculty, students, and staff.
Responsibilities:
Be approachable and available to meet the needs of students throughout the academic year; Serve as a role model of positive behavior; Participate in on-going training to improve skills and knowledge; Help students become successful academically and socially; Serve as a tutor, mentor, and peer success coach to students for academic, co-curricular, and leadership involvement; Direct students to other individuals, organizations, and programs at EKU related to their interests and needs; Show empathy for students in order to determine their needs; Work in an often fast-paced environment; Be a resource person and referral agent for EKU; Provide information, resources, and workshops for all students. Student must be self-motivated, take initiative and responsibility, and be friendly and approachable.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Completed at least one semester at EKU, be enrolled currently as a student, and in Good Academic Standing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Students with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
