The Learning Assistant III :
Professional Tutor provides learning support to students as a member of the STEM Learning Center team. Support services may include tutoring, academic coaching, leading supplemental instruction sessions or study skills workshops, making referrals to campus resources, and assisting with technology. Professional Tutors use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
These are intended only as examples of the various types of job duties to be performed. The mission of the specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is a similar, related, or logical assignment to the position. The following are the functions essential to performing this job: 1. Tutor students individually, in small groups, or embedded in courses. Sessions may be held on campus or online. 2. Engage and encourage students to become confident, successful, and active learners by responding to the diversity of their cultural backgrounds, academic needs, and learning styles. 3. Coach students in academic study skills, research processes, and other STEM learning strategies. 4. Design and/or lead in-class presentations, learning center orientations, supplemental instruction or review sessions, and/or study skills workshops. 5. Help monitor the learning center space and interpret needed processes for students. 6. Encourage communication between student and instructor; refer students to other campus student support services, as needed. 7. Provide technical/software support to students, as needed. 8. Assist the STEM Learning Center Coordinator with researching and updating learning center materials and resources, as requested. 9. Perform record-keeping and administrative tasks as directed. 10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary:
