Job Description

SMARTS, based in Lanham, Maryland, has proudly served the community since 2011. Our mission is to support and encourage students academically and creatively by providing after-school programs tailored to their interests. Working under the guidance of senior staff, the After-School Lead Teacher provides essential supervision and support during activities, transition, and play. Core responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing engaging lesson plans to promote enriching activities for students in our afterschool program (Ages 5-14). This role includes collaborating with other staff, parents, and community members to ensure a positive and inclusive environment for all.
Core Responsibilities:
Develop and implement engaging STEM/Science activities tailored to the interests and needs of your student group. Inspire and motivate students, fostering a positive and inclusive environment. Maintain a structured and supportive environment that fosters learning and growth. Work closely with Associate Teachers and other staff to ensure a cohesive and well-coordinated program.
Qualifications:
Experience leading/organizing youth activities, particularly in an educational or afterschool setting. Strong leadership and communication skills Ability to create and execute engaging and educational activities. Ability to work effectively as part of a team Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to varying skill levels among students Passionate about working with children and helping them learn and grow
Requirements:
One year of related experience or training High School Diploma or equivalent Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members from diverse backgrounds Ability to commute Valid drivers license
Additional Role Specific Information:
Work Hours:
3:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Days will be determined based on availability)
Compensation:
Hourly pay rate will be determined after the interview process and based on qualifications/experience.
