About the Team ACCEL Schools is hiring a dedicated Student Tutor at Barber Preparatory Academy in Highland Park, MI . We are seeking an individual who is passionate about helping students strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and reach their full potential. Barber Preparatory Academy is a public charter school serving PK-8 students with a well-rounded education that includes community service learning and competitive sports. Known for its welcoming school community, Barber Prep is part of ACCEL Schools, a network of public charter schools serving K-12 students across the United States. About the Opportunity The Student Tutor provides targeted individual and small-group academic support under the direction of certified instructional staff. The Tutor works closely with teachers and school leadership to reinforce classroom learning, address skill gaps, and support student growth. Provide individual and small-group tutoring based on identified student needs Reinforce classroom instruction in reading, literacy, writing, mathematics, and other academic areas Adapt tutoring strategies to meet varying student needs and skill levels Monitor and document student participation and academic progress Collaborate with teachers and school leadership to support student growth Create a positive, supportive, and focused learning environment Maintain student confidentiality and accurate records Perform other duties as assigned About You High school diploma or equivalent required Must meet Michigan Title I instructional paraprofessional requirements through at least one of the following: 60 semester credit hours from an accredited institution; or Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution; or Successful completion of a Michigan-approved paraprofessional assessment Previous experience tutoring, mentoring, teaching, or working with school-age children preferred Strong reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills Ability to work effectively with students individually and in small groups Patient, encouraging, and able to build positive relationships with students of varying academic abilities Ability to properly manage confidential information Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks About Us "We believe that every child should be able to be anything they want in life, regardless of their birthplace and circumstances."
