Tutors assist students in developing subject comprehension, critical thinking skills, and effective study habits while fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment. This is a part-time staff position at Desoto Campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of an Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred Preference will be given to candidates with prior tutoring or teaching experience Successful completion of college-level coursework in subjects such as: College Algebra Trigonometry Calculus Physics Chemistry Accounting (preferred) Strong interpersonal and communication skills Self-motivated with a genuine desire to support and encourage students from diverse backgrounds, age groups, and academic levels Must demonstrate patience, flexibility, professionalism, dependability, and a positive attitude Basic computer proficiency required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to student learning, academic growth, and achievement Demonstrate proficiency and academic competence within assigned subject areas Assist students in understanding course material, solving problems, and developing effective learning strategies Foster a growth mindset and encourage student confidence and independence Engage students in critical thinking and higher-level cognitive learning activities Serve as a positive role model by maintaining professionalism and academic integrity Maintain a supportive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and tutoring center staff Must effectively communicate mathematical concepts to students with diverse learning needs, including those who may require additional assistance with reading comprehension, academic vocabulary, and interpretation of mathematical word problems Perform all duties as assigned by CTE Support Services Coordinator
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to take initiative and solve problems effectively Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail Proficiency in technology, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, and internet applications Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the public Ability to collaborate effectively and work as part of a team-oriented environment skills with the ability to engage diverse populations Clear, compassionate, and student-centered communication skills Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical abilities Effective organization, multitasking, and time management skills Demonstrated commitment to student success and providing high-quality customer service
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIROMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to: Communicate effectively in person, by telephone, through Zoom, and via live chat Talk, hear, observe, and assist students and staff Sit and use hands to handle, feel, or operate office equipment Reach with hands and arms Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel as needed Occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 15-20 pounds
