NE02 Position Summary The purpose of this position is to work with a diverse group of colleagues in providing academic learning support, in the form of tutoring, to
SSS TRIO
participants from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds.
MAJOR DUTIES
Provide academic tutoring in developmental and college-level mathematics to support student understanding and course success Assist students in understanding mathematical concepts, including algebra, functions, graphs, and problem-solving strategies Support students in developing effective study skills such as organization, time management, and test preparation Provide individual and small-group tutoring sessions in a structured academic support setting Reinforce course content from lectures, readings, and assignments to strengthen comprehension Refer students to appropriate TRIO staff and campus resources as needed Communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners Maintain accurate documentation of tutoring services in accordance with program requirements Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development activities (e.g., orientations, in-service trainings) Support student success initiatives by encouraging the use of academic support resources, including Tutor.com Perform other related duties as assigned Promote student use of academic support resources, including Tutor.com, by informing students of available services, demonstrating how to access them, and encouraging appropriate use as a supplemental learning tool to support academic success Support outreach efforts to increase awareness and participation in tutoring service Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS
Strong knowledge of mathematics demonstrated by one or more of the following: completion of relevant coursework with a grade of "A" or "B" in College Algebra; associate's degree or higher; relevant certification; or related tutoring/teaching experience supported by faculty or employer recommendation Completion of Calculus I and/or Calculus II with a grade of "A" or "B" is highly preferred Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and effectively to support student learning Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with diverse student populations Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a structured academic support environment Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and internet-based applications Strong organizational skills, dependability, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality Commitment to supporting student success in an academic support environment
