NE02 Position Summary The
TRIO SSS STEM-H
Statistics/Math Tutor provides academic support primarily in statistics coursework, with secondary support in general mathematics courses as needed. The tutor works with students individually and in small groups to strengthen their understanding of quantitative concepts, improve problem-solving skills, and promote effective study strategies. This position supports a student-centered learning environment that promotes academic success, retention, and degree completion for

participants.
MAJOR DUTIES
Provide primary tutoring support in statistics and secondary support in mathematics courses as needed, including concepts such as formulas, data analysis, graphs, interpretation, and problem-solving Reinforce course content from lectures, readings, and assignments to support student understanding and academic success Support development of student study skills, including organization, time management, and test preparation strategies Provide individual and small-group tutoring sessions to TRIO students Develop or adapt instructional materials such as handouts, study guides, and workshop resources to support learning Plan and facilitate tutoring sessions and academic workshops as needed Maintain accurate documentation, including attendance records, tutoring logs, and required reports Ensure completion of student tutoring feedback forms to support program evaluation and improvement Complete monthly time and effort reporting accurately and on time Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and program guidelines Communicate professionally with students, TRIO staff, faculty, and campus partners Use active listening and motivational strategies to support student engagement and academic confidence Make appropriate referrals to TRIO staff and campus resources when needed Assist with onboarding and training of new tutors as requested Maintain organization and cleanliness of tutoring spaces and materials Attend required trainings, including new tutor orientation, pre-semester training, monthly in-service trainings, team meetings, workshops, and other designated program sessions Participate in
TRIO SSS/STEM-H
student orientation sessions and classroom presentations as scheduled Promote student use of academic support resources, including Tutor.com, by informing students of available services, demonstrating how to access them, and encouraging appropriate use as a supplemental learning tool to support academic success Support outreach efforts to increase awareness and participation in tutoring service Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS
Advanced knowledge of statistics and/or mathematics, demonstrated by one or more of the following: completion of relevant coursework with a grade of "B" or higher; associate's degree or higher; relevant certification; specialized experience (including academic-level language fluency/proficiency); and two professional letters of recommendation from a faculty member or previous employer. Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain academic content and support student learning. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations from various cultural, socio-economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a student-centered approach. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic academic support environment. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and internet-based applications. Strong organization, reliability, and professionalism, including the ability to follow directions and maintain confidentiality. Commitment to supporting student success in a tutoring and academic support environment.
