Position Overview
We are seeking experienced and passionate Teachers and College Advisors and Independent Educational Consultants to join our growing team. As a Smart College ACT Tutor or Advisor, you will work directly with students and families to provide individualized support throughout the testing or college admissions journey. This is a flexible role ideal for professionals who want to make a meaningful impact while maintaining autonomy in their work. Hours are flexible and include some evening and weekend hours. This is an ideal "side-gig" type with room for growth into a full-time position.
Key Responsibilities
Tutor students in English, Reading or Math
Guide students through the college planning and admissions process, including:
High school course selection and academic planning
Extracurricular and leadership development planning
College list development and "best-fit" school selection
Application strategy, timeline management, and organization
Personal statement and supplemental essay brainstorming, editing, and refinement
Interview preparation and scholarship/financial aid guidance
Provide families with clear communication, realistic expectations, and ongoing progress updates.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of admissions trends, application platforms (Common App), and higher education opportunities.
Participate in professional development and training sessions offered by Smart College
Represent Smart College with professionalism, empathy, and integrity.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in education, counseling, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in teaching, college counseling, admissions, or as an independent educational consultant preferred but not required.
Understanding of the U.S. college admissions process and familiarity with selective admissions or willingness to learn
Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple students/families, and meet deadlines.
Membership in a professional organization such as IECA, HECA, NACAC, or regional affiliates preferred.
