Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Description of Duties:
Coordinate and support daily operations of content (subject area) and writing tutoring, including peer-to-peer, embedded, in-person, and online tutoring, to support students in mastering course content. Monitor and manage Penjiapp tutoring scheduling system, Tutor.com online tutoring platform, etc. Supervise and support peer content and writing tutors. Promote tutoring services to the college. Respond to student and faculty inquiries regarding tutoring services. Maintain accurate tutor records and support tracking of center usage and service delivery. Assist with collecting, organizing, and summarizing usage and operations data for internal tracking and reporting. Collaborate with other Learning Commons faculty and staff to support overall Learning Commons operations. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Education, Humanities, or STEM-related fields, including English, Hawaiian Language or Studies, or Computer Science and 0 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for tutoring services or similar academic support services; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of academic support as demonstrated by the knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with higher education. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area of tutoring support. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software. Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent Google Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, and Slides).
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience coordinating or assisting with tutoring activities, initiatives, or communications between tutors, students, or staff in a higher-education or community-college setting. Demonstrated ability to mentor or train peer tutors or student employees in academic-support settings. Background in facilitating learning or providing academic support in one or more disciplines offered at the college. Demonstrated experience using tutoring scheduling platforms such as Penjiapp. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff in a college environment. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population.
