We focus on helping students understand the concepts and reasoning skills tested on the SAT while adapting instruction to each student's individual strengths, challenges, and goals. We are currently seeking an experienced SAT instructor and private tutor who can independently work with high school students across both SAT Math and Reading & Writing. The Opportunity This position is ideal for an experienced educator or tutor who genuinely enjoys working one-on-one with high school students and knows how to turn subject knowledge into effective teaching. Our immediate need is primarily for SAT Private Tutoring , with opportunities to teach SAT courses as student demand and mutual availability allow. What You'll Do Provide high-quality one-on-one SAT instruction across both Math and Reading & Writing Teach Pittsburgh Prep's established SAT curriculum while adapting instruction to each student's learning needs, strengths, weaknesses, and score goals Diagnose recurring misconceptions and identify the concepts and skills most important for each student's improvement Build productive relationships with high school students and create an environment in which students actively participate, learn, and develop confidence Help students develop stronger problem-solving, reasoning, time-management, and test-taking skills Recommend appropriate practice and preparation between sessions Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as performance changes Complete a concise Progress Report following each tutoring session Communicate meaningful student progress, concerns, or instructional needs to Pittsburgh Prep when appropriate Maintain strong working knowledge of the current Digital SAT Participate in Pittsburgh Prep's paid training and onboarding process Potentially teach small-group SAT courses based on experience, student demand, instructor availability, and mutual interest What We're Looking ForRequired Bachelor's degree At least 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience Strong mastery of both SAT Math and SAT Reading & Writing Ability to explain challenging concepts clearly and in more than one way when a student does not initially understand Ability to adapt instruction to students with different personalities, learning needs, academic backgrounds, and levels of motivation Strong communication, professionalism, reliability, and follow-through Comfort working with high school students Ability to use common online learning, communication, and productivity tools Willingness to complete Pittsburgh Prep's SAT content and instructional assessment Strongly Preferred Previous SAT teaching or tutoring experience Demonstrated SAT or comparable standardized test performance at or above the 95th percentile Experience providing one-on-one instruction to high school students Familiarity with the current Digital SAT Experience helping students achieve measurable score improvement Experience teaching both higher-performing students pursuing ambitious score goals and students who need significant foundational support Availability during weekday afternoons/evenings and/or weekends High standardized test performance is strongly preferred but is not a substitute for demonstrated current SAT mastery and effective teaching ability. Final candidates will complete a Pittsburgh Prep SAT content and instructional assessment. Schedule & Student Assignments This opportunity begins as an independent contractor engagement . Instructors provide their availability, and Pittsburgh Prep matches students based on student needs, location, subject fit, and instructor availability. We are currently seeking someone who generally has capacity to accept approximately 10-20 hours of student instruction per week , although actual hours depend on student demand, instructor availability, and mutually suitable student matches. Highland Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15206 North Hills location: 8301 Perry Highway, McKnight, PA 15237 South Hills location: 2555 Washington Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15241 Online instruction is also available when a student's service is scheduled virtually or when arranged in advance. Candidates do not necessarily need to be available at all physical locations at all times. Location availability will be considered when matching instructors with students.
Compensation Student instruction:
$60 - $75/hour , based on relevant experience and demonstrated SAT content and instructional mastery. Pittsburgh Prep also provides additional paid compensation for required session preparation and Progress Report completion . Training and onboarding are paid. Instructors do not need to find or solicit their own Pittsburgh Prep students. Pittsburgh Prep manages student inquiries, enrollment, billing, core curriculum and resources, and administrative support so instructors can focus primarily on teaching. Training & Instructional Support Pittsburgh Prep provides paid training on our SAT curriculum, instructional approach, learning resources, technology, and student-progress systems. We provide the core curriculum and instructional framework while expecting instructors to use their own professional judgment to adapt instruction to individual students. We believe excellent teaching is not one-size-fits-all. Our goal is consistency in instructional quality and curriculum, not uniformity in personality or teaching style.
