Salary Range:
$15.90 per hour, subject to increase based on experience. This position includes employee benefits. Reports to: Building Principal.
General Requirements Clearances:
Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/ground Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
Education Level:
Bachelor's Degree. South Dakota teaching certificate with Elementary endorsement. Must be highly qualified for the position according to South Dakota Department of Education guidelines and regulations.
Experience Desired:
Previous experience working with students is preferred. Experience with students needing additional assistance is helpful.
Other Requirements:
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong listening and problem-solving skills, skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. In-depth knowledge of effective teaching strategies and subject matter. Portrays a positive self-concept and attitude toward teaching. Maintains professional appearance. Demonstrated ability to work courteously and cooperatively with people in a multi-person environment. Ability to work efficiently with a wide range of students, staff and administration. Demonstrated computer skills. Ability to handle stress and the ability to exercise self-control. React to change productively. Demonstrated ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality in dealing with individuals and/or their records.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires constant eye-hand, mind-eye coordination. Intermittent speaking, standing, walking, sitting, crouching, reaching, pushing/pulling and writing. Frequent carrying of up to twenty five (25) pounds. Essential Functions Support the philosophy and mission of the Aberdeen School District. Assist with assessments to identify students in need of additional reading support. Select materials and plan guided reading lessons. Assist with groups of students to reinforce classroom guided reading instruction. Assist individual children in need of additional guided instruction. Maximize available amount of time for teaching. Establish and maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students. Maintain an organized and attractive physical work environment. Recognize signs of emotional/physical distress in students and take appropriate action when necessary. Maintain appropriate management and supervision for all assigned students. Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Meet and instruct assigned students in the location(s) and time(s) designated. Attend staff meetings. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by participating in district-initiated staff development. Communicate effectively and clearly with others. Use appropriate and effective written and spoken language. Respond to communications within the school district, (e-mail, voice mail, interoffice memos, postal mail) in a timely manner. Adhere to all district policies, handbooks, and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
