Job Description Job Summary As an SSS Tutor, you will provide one-on-one academic tutoring and assist students in developing effective study strategies. You'll work closely with each student to create individualized tutoring plans and set academic goals tailored to their needs, while preparing and delivering sessions that promote ongoing academic growth. In this role, you will also communicate regularly with program staff about student progress and participate in required SSS tutor training sessions. We are seeking individuals who demonstrate strong knowledge and competence in the subject areas they wish to tutor and who genuinely enjoy teaching and supporting student learning. Successful tutors are able to clearly explain concepts to students from diverse backgrounds, maintain strong organizational skills, and complete all required documentation accurately and on time. Patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude are essential to building an encouraging learning environment. Applicants must be currently enrolled at ETSU or recently graduated, have completed the course they intend to tutor with a grade of B or higher, and hold an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
Application Review Timeline:
Applications are reviewed twice each year: once before the fall semester and again before the spring semester (early August and early January). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter. Shows a strong commitment to supporting student learning in the subject area. Ability to clearly explain concepts to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete paperwork accurately and on time. Patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude that help create an encouraging learning environment. Required Qualifications Be currently enrolled at ETSU or a recent ETSU graduate. Have completed the course you wish to tutor with a grade of B or higher. Hold an overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
