PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Tutors are an essential component of the RTI process and used to remediate, enrich and accelerate student learning in the areas of reading, English, math, science and social studies. The tutor is essential to facilitate student access to rigorous content and curriculum. The tutor works closely with the teacher and assists in delivery of instruction to students during class, before school or after school.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School diploma Completion or enrollment in a college or university is desired
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong back ground knowledge in English Language Arts or Strong background knowledge in Math or Science orStrong background knowledge in Social StudiesBackground or history of working effectively with elementary and/or secondary students

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Maintain a positive and professional attitude. Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for students to follow. Take responsibility for the tone and atmosphere of the classroom. Wear appropriate attire at all times. Inform teacher in advance of absence/tardiness on a tutorial day. Acknowledge the individuality of all students and work to develop their academic and personal pride. Actively participate in collaborative groups and tutorials. Facilitate the tutorial learning process. Conduct tutorial sessions that underscore the principle of collaborative learning and the practice of students teaching other students through discussion of class and text notes. Determine from student instructional materials and discussions, the concepts that need to be the focus of tutorial sessions. Assist students in any subject area, by being familiar with students' textbooks and instructional materials. Assist in teaching study skills applicable to the grade level. Become familiar with the specific routines and expectations of the teachers' classrooms. Adhere to district/site policies and procedures.
