Job Description

Utah Valley University's Math Lab is seeking additional peer math tutors who can provide academic support to students. As a tutor, you will be responsible for assisting students from various backgrounds and skill levels in understanding math concepts and content material. As a tutor, you will be responsible for providing academic support to students both in-person and online. You will also be expected to complete all mandatory training, maintain reliability and punctuality, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Additional responsibilities may include conducting class visits, creating and updating handouts, producing content-based videos, designing and delivering workshops, and assisting with various Math Lab marketing initiatives throughout the semester. Department Overview The Math Lab helps students succeed by reinforcing mathematical and problem-solving skills, as well as teaching study techniques that can be applied to any subject. We recognize the opportunity—and responsibility—to support all students in ways that facilitate self-discovery and build confidence in their mathematical pursuits. Must be a current UVU student. Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Must commit to working a minimum of 10 hrs/week. Must have completed ONE of the following with a grade of B or better:

•Ordinary Differential Equations; and/or one upper division (3000 or 4000) course.

Familiar with available student resources on campus.
Effective tutors can:
Collaborate with students to enhance their content knowledge. Communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear, concise, and friendly manner. Maintain confidentiality. Cultivate professional relationships with staff, faculty, and students. Contribute to the smooth operation of the tutoring labs and participate in on-going training. Reliably complete assigned tasks on time.
