Program Summary:

Wright to Read has been providing services in the city of Alexandria for over 47 years. Our flagship tutor-mentor program has largely targeted Alexandria City Public School-(ACPS) enrolled elementary-aged children who need additional literacy supports by pairing students one-on-one with a volunteer tutor-mentor. These matches typically last at least three years on average, and the strength of the relationship developed between student and volunteer usually leads to continued involvement and engagement in the program. Wright to Read is looking for an enthusiastic and engaging person to serve as Site Facilitator for our ACPS after-school, site-based program. In this role, the Site Facilitator will take the lead in guiding the students and tutor-mentors through the program activities for each session, managing communication with program participants (both families and volunteers), and continuous evaluation and improvement of the program. She/he/they will be able to lead participants through the set curriculum and meet program objectives while effectively keeping the participants highly engaged. In the case of volunteer absences, the Site Facilitator will provide direct services to students to ensure students consistently receive tutoring each week.

Read Primary Duties:

Serve as lead facilitator for each tutoring session, guiding a team of volunteer tutor-mentors and students in tutoring and mentoring activities over the course of the school year (e.g., keeping participants engaged and on task for each work session's agenda, providing on-site support for volunteers, etc.) Maintain weekly communication with tutor-mentors, program staff, and school points of contact to plan tutoring sessions and coordinate coverage. Lead family and tutor-mentor orientation and offboarding events at the start and conclusion of the program year Assist the Program Manager in the management and supervision of WTR intern placed at sites Ongoing support and communication to volunteers and families/student participants to encourage attendance and participation Track and report on attendance, engagement, and other qualitative and quantitative measures to ensure continuous improvement Assist in tutoring students 1-on-1 or in a group as needed to either provide additional dosage or support to volunteer tutor-mentors who are absent Help create weekly agenda and prepare training materials and provide volunteers with feedback as needed based on observations. Support program staff in decision making around student and tutoring matching, and transition to other tutoring models within Wright to Read Advise Program Manager on curricula, tools, enrichment activities and incentives to be utilized by tutors working with elementary-aged students As requested, help staff with additional WTR enrichment events (occasional evening/weekend work requested 3-5 times a year) or attend training/professional development activities

Location and Time:

Fall 2026-Spring 2027: Position is required to be onsite at either John Adams and Samuel Tucker Elementary Schools with participants once a week for one or two 1-hour sessions (every Wednesday from 2:30-5:30 pm for tutoring sessions that will run from 3-4 pm and 4:15-5:15 pm, and Tuesdays from 2:30-4:30 pm for a tutoring session that will run from 3-4 pm) Additional background check / training is expected to be ~8-10 hours to be completed prior to start This is a temporary/seasonal position with the possibility of an extension based on program needs and performance during the 26-27 academic year. Expected hours are approximately 6-8 hours/week but will vary. Additional work would be done remotely and could be conducted in off-business (9-5) hours Expectation that Campagna Center email will be checked on daily basis and respond to requests/questions within 2 business days Please notify the Program Manager in advance with foreseeable absence and vacation time when you will not be available. Please note temporary employees are only compensated for times that they are scheduled to work and are not expected to work on days that fall on school holidays/breaks and teacher work/professional holidays (when students are off). Qualifications:

Effective verbal and written communicator and able to scale and adapt communications for a variety of audiences Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite of Tools/Software Ability to work both independently and/or with minimal guidance Volunteer management experience a plus Previous experience working with children (ideally in elementary) preferred Previous experience with tutoring for transitional/emergent readers preferred Previous experience developing literacy intervention strategies to accelerate students' reading progress Bilingual fluency a plus but not required (our families speak primarily Spanish, Amharic, or Arabic) Experience working in racially, ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
