Job Description:
This Federal Work Study (FWS) Tutor position fulfills City University of Seattle's federal work study requirement of using 7% of our FWS allocation to employ students in community service jobs with at least one FWS student employed as a tutor for children in a reading tutoring project or performing family literacy activities in a family literacy project. Students must work within their communities and school districts to gauge interest in opportunity. Tutoring position must be coordinated by the student. Student will need to obtain position that fulfills essential duties and responsibilities below. Tutors must obtain a direct supervisor who will be available for training, signing off on timesheets, and overall supervision of the work being performed. Tutoring positions are fully paid by CityU through the use of FWS campus-based aid.
Requirements:
Community service job can be either on or off campus at a local nonprofit, governmental, or community-based organization. Must be accessible to the community at large. Must work with school aged children from preschool through elementary school. Tutoring can be done on a one-on-one basis or in a group setting. Tutoring can take place in a school setting or another location such as a public library or community center. Tutoring sessions can be held during regular school hours, after school, on weekends, or in the summer. We strongly recommend that a FWS receives proper training before starting tutoring. FWS students can receive funding for training hours. Training hours may not exceed 20 hours.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Must be eligible for financial aid and have remaining financial need AFTER other resources have been applied. Must be enrolled at least Half Time (5 credits for
UGRAD, 3
credits for
GRAD/DCGRD
), or accepted for enrollment in financial aid eligible programs at CityU. Must meet CityU's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements for duration of program to remain eligible for FWS. Must be able to coordinate with school district or community to obtain work study opportunity.

This is a part-time (19.5 hours per week) student position.
Salary:
This position pays a minimum wage of $19.97/hour.
