GEAR UP is an Educational Grant in partnership with WSU Tri-Cities. WSU Tri-Cities GEAR UP is funded with federal funds by the Department of Education whose purpose is to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who graduate from high school and successfully complete post-secondary education. GEAR UP is a seven-year grant beginning in middle school and continuing to serve the entire cohort of students through their first year of college. Learn more about WSU Tri-Cities GEAR UP Program at https://tricities.wsu.edu/gearup/ Washington State University Tri-Cities GEAR UP is looking to fill 1-2 part-time tutoring positions for Mountain View High School (Vancouver, WA). Tutors are responsible for working with students in the graduating classes of 2026 & 27 (current 12th graders and college freshmen) in all academic subjects, with a primary focus on STEM, as well as general advising. We are seeking tutors with strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. A strong candidate will have the ability to assess student needs and articulate academic concepts in varying yet effective ways. Tutors must be comfortable with both in-class and after-school tutoring, and should have the ability to adapt one's tutoring style to fit individual students' needs. Tutors will work mornings and/or afternoons Monday - Friday, no more than 19 hours per week. There are occasional, non-mandatory opportunities for evening, weekend, and overnight shifts. We offer Paid Time Off in the form of Paid Sick Leave. This is an in-person position located at Mountain View High School in Vancouver, WA. This position will report to the GEAR UP Site Manager. Responsibilities Offer academic assistance to students in Math and/or Science classrooms Assist students with a variety of learning styles with homework and exam preparation Tutor students after school one-on-one and in small groups with the support of the Student Achievement Specialist (SAS) Prepare for tutoring by analyzing what subjects students will need help with and familiarizing yourself with the material Assist with occasional events (set-up, during, and clean-up), such as Career Fairs, College Campus Visits, and more With the direction of the SAS, assist students with College and Career Planning Communicate with parents and teachers about their student(s)' progress Follow Mountain View High School and GEAR UP protocols and procedures Qualifications Ability to pass a background check through WATCH Knowledge of and ability to explain math, science, and other academic concepts Ability to work flexible hours and attend tutor training sessions Ability to maintain regular attendance and be punctual Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Preferred Qualifications Bilingual High School Diploma or current college student Previous tutoring experience Familiarity with teaching methodology Ability to promote and inspire college readiness skills

Pay:

$17.00 - $21.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 19.0 per week
