Job Description

VALLEY OF THE SUN YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION
is hiring a Sports Official
  • Jr. Cardinals
  • Flag Football
  • Northwest Valley Family YMCA in El Mirage, AZ.
This is a full-time position. Officiates at games according to league rules and YMCA guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SPORTS OFFICIAL
Game Officiating:
Enforce YMCA flag football rules consistently, fairly and confidentiality.
Game Management:
Control the pace and flow of the game while keeping games on schedule.
Player Safety:
Prioritize athlete safety and address unsafe play or conditions immediately.
Sportsmanship:
Promote respect, teamwork, positive behavior and good sportsmanship.
Rule Enforcement:
Identify and communicate penalties, violations, scoring, possession and other game situations.
Communication:
Communicate clearly and professionally with players, coaches, parents and YMCA staff.
Youth Development:
Create a positive, encouraging and age-appropriate environment for young athletes.
Conflict Management:
Handle disagreements calmly and professionally and involve YMCA staff when necesssary.
Game Preparation:
Arrive on time, prepared, properly dressed and familiar with assigned league rules.
Incident Reporting:
Report injuries, behavioral concerns, ejections or other significant incidents to YMCA staff.
Professionalism:
Represent the YMCA positively and follow all YMCA policies, procedures and Code of Conduct expectations.
Teamwork:
Work collaboratively with fellow officials, coaches and Sports Department staff to ensure a successful game experience.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A SPORTS OFFICIAL
Current CPR 21 years of age or older. Current state approved first aid certification. Six months minimum experience in refereeing. Up-to-date knowledge of YMCA guidelines designated for the league.
