Job Description
Gameday Sports Academy is seeking dependable, confident, and knowledgeable individuals to officiate youth basketball games at the Dignity Health Sports Complex. Our referees are responsible for creating a safe, fair, organized, and positive game environment for developing athletes. This position is ideal for someone who understands basketball, communicates effectively, makes confident decisions under pressure, and enjoys working with young athletes, coaches, and families. GSA operates structured youth basketball programs focused on consistent training, competitive game experience, and long-term athlete development. Primary Responsibilities Officiate assigned youth basketball games according to GSA rules and generally accepted basketball standards. Make clear, consistent, and impartial calls throughout each game. Maintain control of the game while promoting sportsmanship and respectful conduct. Communicate professionally with players, coaches, scorekeepers, staff members, and spectators. Explain calls to young athletes and coaches when appropriate. Monitor player safety and stop play when necessary. Arrive early enough to check in, receive assignments, and prepare for the scheduled game. Confirm that the court, game ball, teams, and scorekeeping personnel are ready before play begins. Work collaboratively with other officials and GSA staff. Report injuries, behavioral incidents, ejections, or other significant issues to the Basketball Director. Follow all GSA policies, scheduling procedures, dress requirements, and youth-safety expectations. Represent Gameday Sports Academy professionally during every assignment. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old . Strong understanding of basketball rules, violations, fouls, scoring, and game flow. Ability to make quick and confident decisions. Clear verbal communication skills. Dependable and punctual. Able to remain calm and professional during competitive situations. Comfortable addressing players, coaches, and spectators respectfully. Able to stand, walk, jog, and move continuously during games. Available for scheduled evening or weekend assignments. Willing to participate in GSA referee training and evaluation. Preferred Qualifications Previous basketball officiating experience. Experience playing or coaching organized basketball. Familiarity with youth basketball rules and age-appropriate game management. Prior experience working with children or teenagers. Current or previous referee certification. Previous officiating experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong basketball knowledge, professionalism, and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. Ideal Candidate The ideal referee is: Fair and consistent. Confident without being confrontational. Patient with developing athletes. Comfortable receiving feedback. Reliable when accepting scheduled assignments. Focused on player safety and sportsmanship. Capable of maintaining control without becoming the center of the game. Schedule This is a flexible, part-time position based on GSA's basketball game schedule.
