Summary Description Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor of Parks and Recreation, performs a variety of duties in support of the Village's Parks and Recreation Department. The primary responsibility of the Parks and Recreation Volleyball Referee
  • Seasonal Independent Contractor is to ensure that all persons have a safe and enjoyable experience while visiting or using the Village of Monee Parks and Recreation facilities. In addition, the Parks and Recreation Volleyball Referee
  • Seasonal Independent Contractor acts as a representative of the Parks and Recreation Department and is responsible for officiating adult recreational volleyball. Parks and Recreation Volleyball Referee
  • Seasonal Independent Contractor follows the goals and objectives determined by the Parks and Recreation Department.
Representative Duties The following duties are typical for this classification, incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. 1. Responsible for meeting the Parks and Recreation Mission. 2. Officiate volleyball games according to general rules of the sport as well as any rules specific to the Parks and Recreation Department. 3. Show up for scheduled games at a time that will allow the contracted person to properly prepare him/herself for the game. 4. Start and complete games on time and controls time outs during the game. 5. Clarifies rules to program participants and resolves any rule or scoring disputes. 6. Maintains a fair manner with all teams and individuals. 7. Call games according to the skill level of the league. 8. Records score for each game on the scoresheet and have the captain's sign off after the final match. Turn in the scorecard to the athletics site coordinator on duty (sand). 9. Work to ensure a safe environment for program participants, Parks and Recreation staff, and members of the general public, within the established Village of Monee Programs. 10. Encourage and demonstrate safe work habits through the use of established safety program guidelines. 11. Enforce the rules and regulations of the Parks and Recreation Department for the safety and welfare of staff and participants. 12. Maintain positive public relations and provide enthusiastic customer service by greeting and welcoming guests and recreation program participants with a warm and friendly attitude. 13. Communicates with participants, and the public. 14. Maintains a current knowledge and awareness of principles, practices, regulations and procedures of the Parks and Recreation department. 15. Adheres to all Village Safety Policies and Procedures; utilizes precaution with Safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of participants. 16. Keeps Supervisor up to date on any and all information related to the program. 17. Monitors participants to ensure prevention of accidents and injuries. 18. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or skills to be learned with a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties. Ability to interact with others including the public in a reasonable and courteous manner. Ability to communicate effectively Must be honest, trustworthy and reliable. Energetic and positive attitude. Maintain a professional appearance. Must be able to motivate and encourage participants. Must be flexible to work an inconsistent schedule involving evenings, and weekends. Possess a combination of training, and experience which provides the prerequisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Education and/or Other Requirements Must have a HS Diploma or equivalent. Must be a minimum of 18 years old Valid Driver's License.
