Job Description

Love basketball and want to give back to your community? We re looking for a certified Basketball Referee to join our adult summer league! Help create a fun, safe, and competitive environment for local players. Games are held Tuesday evenings in June and July from 6PM-10PM. Apply today!

POSITION SUMMARY:
To oversee athletic facilities, including participants and equipment, during basketball games. To ensure that emphasis in Y sports programs is always on participation, inclusion, fun and fair play. Exhibit values that will lead to a positive experience in sports.

MEMBER SERVICE STATEMENT
Members are the heart of this organization. They are the reason we exist. Members are the most important visitors we have, whether they visit by mail, phone or in person. They are not statistics and always deserve our respect. No matter what we are hired to do, satisfying members needs and wants is everyone s first and most important responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Arrives to scheduled shifts at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled start. Enforce all rules in accordance with IAABO standards and in accordance with the Youth League. Demonstrate strong conflict management skills by remaining composed and using sound judgment to de-escalate disputes, disagreements with calls, and heightened emotions during gameplay. Ensure all teams treated equally and fairly in accordance with sport rules. Help in always maintaining safety of program participants and spectators. Actively supports the organization s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization s diversity goals. Maintains final scores as required. Attends staff meetings and trainings as needed. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. The principal objective will be to conduct/referee the program in a manner that will fulfill the YMCA s mission, guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
IAABO Certified by International Association of Approved Basketball Officials, Inc. Experience in sports as both a player and coach/instructor preferred. Demonstrated ability to handle disputes related to calls and player conduct with composure and sound judgment. Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization. Actively supports all DEIB efforts. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Requeseted Certifications:
CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid.
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT
Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. Attend required abuse risk management training. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Physical Demands:
Sufficient strength, agility, mobility and endurance to run up and down a full sized basketball court. Climbing, crouching, standing, sitting on floor, kneeling, carrying (50 lbs), pushing, lifting (50 lbs), running and walking.
